Mountain Wisdom Inc. is a mentoring organization committed to fostering healthy teens and families by providing fun-filled transformational experiences and challenging outdoor adventures focusing on nature awareness and responsibility.
Adolescence is a critical time of life; it is powerful and transformative. Teenagers can learn and grow from their experiences or be beaten down by them. Most kids at this time feel very much alone. We at Mountain Wisdom, seek to show these young men and women how to cope with these tough years. Having adult role models is one of the critical things which can buffer the stress and heartache they all deal with. We meet each young person where they are.
We accomplish this in a complete natural setting. All electronic distractions, junk food and other parts of modern urban life are set aside.
During our weeklong wilderness camps, opportunities abound for campers to learn and practice outdoor skills that teach self-reliance and confidence. There are simple challenges such as learning how to build a fire and other bush craft skills, as well as more complex challenges like participating in cooperative games and ropes course to build teamwork. They learn to lead and follow, ask for help from others and discover personal strengths and talents.
Mountain Wisdom Inc., programs offer many activities including, hiking, ropes course, creek hikes, music, dance, drumming, singing, archery, journaling, tracking, plant identification, knots, primitive skills, and shelter building. Campers will experience team building and leadership training through interactive, cooperative activities and trust building exercises. Environmental conservation, nature awareness and life skills are essential and help the youth connect to themselves and others.
Through all the different activities and experiences the youth feel a sense of purpose and self-worth. We work with them to set individual Smart Goals and personal purpose. They know they make a difference.
The programs we offer are more than a place to make new friends and learn new skills, it is an amazing experience that furthers the moral and personal development of young people into adulthood and to feel a part of the Mountain Wisdom community.
Most of our participants cannot afford to pay for our programs, but we remain determined to include all who are interested. We are inclusive of all people ages 12 - 17 years old regardless of race, religion, gender, nationality, ability, sexuality or social economic backgrounds. Your contribution is critical to funding scholarships for these young people. We have not and will not turn anyone away.
